Hiki-au Heiau is a temple where human sacrifices were performed. Pu'uhonua o Honaunau is a place of refuge, lawbreakers had one chance to escape the inevitable death penalty: Reach the area's place of refuge (third picture) before you where killed and all was forgiven.

Much of the big island isn't green and filled with palm trees, a lot of it is lava rock. South Point is very windy it's so windy that the trees grow sideways.
